Hundreds of youths have reportedly attacked customs personnel, camps and their checkpoints in Babura town of Jigawa state after one of the customs officers allegedly shot a 60-year-old man identified as Alhaji Umaru Babban Mutum and his driver to death.
The Tribune reports that the fracas began after customs officials impounded a car belonging to Umaru on the suspicion that he allegedly imported the vehicle through Niger republic.
The newspaper stated that Umaru had an argument with the officials when he went to retrieve his impounded vehicle.

It was reported that during the argument, one of the customs officials shot Umaru?s driver on the leg. The conduct of the customs officials was said to have infuriated Umaru who challenged them and was also shot in the stomach by the same officer and instantly died.
On hearing about the alleged killing, a mob numbering about 500 reportedly mobilised themselves and trooped from a distance of four kilometres from Babban Mutum under Katsina state? carrying weapons attacked all the five custom checkpoints and burnt them down in the process while four cars belonging to the officers were also completely burnt.
The incident was confirmed by the public relations officer of the Jigawa/Kano area command, Isah Danbaba, who said investigation on the matter has begun.

Meanwhile, the federal operations unit, Ikeja, of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), has said it seized 18 cars valued at N303 million which entered the country through illegal routes in February.
In his speech at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 28, the controller of the unit, Mohammed Uba, said the vehicles came into the country through land borders which were routes unapproved by the federal government, Premium Times reports.
The vehicles were intercepted along Ijebu Ode in Ogun state and have been kept in Customs warehouse in Ikeja.
